Over 122,000 children live in child-headed households in South Africa. Director Warren Mac Carthy traveled to a charming little town called Piet Retief to film the story of  Nqobile Mdletshe who was orphaned at age 15 and chose to raise her younger sister single handed. With barely enough money for food, and working at a local supermarket while still a student in school, Nqobile’s future looked bleak until she found out about a bursary program from Make a Difference Leadership Foundation.  Her life would never be the same again. This mini documentary will go live in October / November 2016.

South African Education

http://www.news24.com/MyNews24/How-to-fix-SAs-education-system-20121106

South African education is in crisis.

We’ve dedicated ourselves to producing films for Africa’s children, starting with the heroes of SA education. Stay tuned!

“The World Economic Forum (WEF) Global Information Technology Report 2013 ranks South Africa’s Maths and Science education second last in the world, only ahead of Yemen. It further ranks the quality of our education system 140 of 144 countries and our Internet Access in Schools, 111 of 143 countries. 21 years after our new constitution and SA education seems to be on a slippery slope. South Africans are frustrated and despondent.

Despite the status quo, there are numerous heroes in the public and private sector that are systematically transforming the social landscape in South Africa.”
