“The lockdown in South Africa has had a dismal effect on the economy, especially in the poorer areas. Without private interventions in the form of food banks and donations, complete chaos would have reigned. What moved me as a filmmaker, were the countless stories of heroism and altruism where people braved the dangers of COVID 19 to help on the ground, and used their own unique talents to help raise funds, particularly in the arts. We had artists documenting the effects of the lockdown on the voiceless, artists painting lockdown themed works every day, arists creating humorous and poignant works to educate and uplift their audience. In that sense, art is society’s salvation. I immediately wanted make a short documentary film about this, off the back of “Art of Survival”. Director / Producer, Warren Mac Carthy @zen_cinematic
