When Art Heals
This short documentary explores how art helped world renowned sculptor, Dylan Lewis, heal old wounds, produce new art from the healing process.
Psychologist Deborah Ashdown approached Warren MacCarthy to do a short film about an artist finding himself in his art. She wanted to find out about Dylan’s experience with psychotherapy – to see how that impacted his art, and to experience the intricacies of filmmaking for the first time. Thanks to Dylan’s openness and Warren’s guidance, the film expanded into a deeper exploration of Dylan’s inner world. Warren took the fly on the wall approach, observing Deborah while she conversed and interviewed Dylan, capturing footage of them interacting, as well as his environment. As editor, he helped find the character arc. Co-director, Editor, DOP: Warren MacCarthy; Director: Deborah Ashdown
