With almost 1 million views on YouTube, this short documentary about Ice Swimmers was produced by Warren MacCarthy for the Great Big Story team, CNN, along and The Weather Channel. Warren directed and filmed the shoot with Marc Degenaar on camera. Additional footage supplied by Shawn Van Zyl. They travelled to the Afriski Resort in the majestic mountains of Lesotho, 3050m above sea level. Oxygen is scarce and temperatures typically below freezing. Here, a group of 15 elite swimmers lead by Ram Barkai, compete in one of the most extreme races on earth.

Scientists at the University of KwaZulu-Natal and South African Medical Research Council are not only driving the search for a cure for HIV but also elucidating the genomes of under-studied African populations in general.
