Ice Swimmers – Short Documentary

In this film, produced for the amazing GBS team, @zen_cinematic (Warren Mac Carthy – Director, Field Producer) and Marc Degenaar (Camera) travel to the Afriski Resort in the majestic mountains of Lesotho. At 3050m above sea level, oxygen is scarce and temperatures typically below freezing. In this event, a group of 15 elite swimmers lead by Ram Barkai, compete in one of the most extreme races on earth.

With no wet suits for protection competitors cut through the ice and compete in water cold enough to kill them. For these athletes, its not merely about the win – every stroke is about endurance, will, and overcoming extreme elements. We met dynamic cameraman Shawn van Zyl at the resort, who added some awesome drone footage along with extra interviews and shots. The video has gone viral on Youtube.
